Media Consent Form (2025-2026)
(Photography, Audio, Video, Media and Social Media)
Public schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador promote involvement in curricular and co-curricular
activities by posting student photos, audio, and/or video or academic and non-academic student work on their website, social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky etc.) and/or newsletters, presentations, brochures or advertisements. Activities and achievements of schools may also be promoted on NLSchools’ social media platforms, website www.nlschools.ca (www.nlschools.ca), or via other promotional opportunities. Occasionally, traditional media outlets may be present in our school to videotape, photograph, record, and/or interview students involved in school-related activities.
Additionally, video or photography of learning activities involving students may be used in the development of professional learning (PL) resources for educators. Once developed, these PL resources are intended to be used internally, housed within NLSchools/Department of Education and Early Childhood Development PL websites, and may be used for multiple years.
Please note: activities considered ‘in school’ include, but are not limited to, pictures and video of activities that occur in the school environment; inside the physical building, the classroom, or in a Google classroom/ structured online environment.
Schools are committed to using digital tools, including AI, responsibly and ethically in creating or enhancing media content. This may include the use of filters, background modifications, or other digital alterations. We ensure that any changes respect the dignity, identity, and privacy of our students. NLSchools/Department of Education and Early Childhood Development follows best practices for ethical media use and regularly reviews our policies to align with current technology and societal standards.
Please indicate your wishes regarding your child’s involvement in the promotional and professional activities noted above by completing the form below and returning it to your child’s homeroom teacher. Student names or images will not be used without permission from the parent/guardian.
Families are also encouraged to review NLSchools’ Social Media Use policy (FIN-502) and Terms and Conditions for Student Use, as well as the Acceptable Use of Technology policy (FIN-500) available at https://www.nlschools.ca/about/policies.jsp
